Isla
Ko Muk
Ko Muk, meaning 'Pearl Island' in Thai, is a small island of approximately 7 square kilometres in Trang Province's Andaman Sea coastline, and the most visited of the Trang island chain. The island is renowned for Tham Morakot (Emerald Cave), where visitors swim through an 80-metre pitch-dark limestone tunnel to emerge in a hidden lagoon open to the sky.
Ko Muk is inhabited year-round, giving it a lived-in character that distinguishes it from the purely resort-oriented islands nearby, with a majority-Muslim fishing community living alongside the tourist economy. The island lies approximately 15 minutes by longtail boat from the Khuan Tung Ku Pier on the mainland coast of Kantang District. Unlike Ko Kradan and Ko Ngai, which close partially during the May-to-October monsoon season, Ko Muk retains a resident population through the year and offers a glimpse of genuine southern Thai island life. Haad Farang (Charlie Beach) on the island's western shore is the main tourist beach, backed by a cluster of bungalows and small restaurants. Ko Muk falls within the Hat Chao Mai National Park system and is a useful base for island-hopping excursions to neighbouring Trang islands.
