Lampang

Located 696 km north of Bangkok, Lampang covers 12,488 km² and had a registered population of 704,126 in 2024, making it the ninth-largest province by area in Thailand. The Wang River cuts through a valley ringed by the Thanon Thong Chai and Phi Pan Nam mountain ranges, with Doi Luang reaching 1,697 metres to the north. The province's signature landmark is Wat Phra That Lampang Luang, a fortified hilltop temple complex dating to the early 13th century and considered one of the finest surviving examples of Lanna architecture. Lampang is also a leading centre for Thailand's ceramics industry, home to more than 200 factories producing the distinctive blue-and-white celadon ware. The Thai Elephant Conservation Centre near Hang Chat is one of the country's foremost facilities for elephant care and training.
