Prachuap Khiri Khan

Prachuap Khiri Khan is a long, narrow province on the Kra Isthmus in the upper Gulf of Thailand, where Thailand narrows to just 11 kilometres at its narrowest point. Beyond the Hua Hin resort area, it encompasses pristine fishing towns, limestone karst coastlines, and the military town of Prachuap Khiri Khan itself.

Prachuap Khiri Khan covers 6,368 square kilometres, stretching over 200 kilometres from north to south along the Gulf coast, and is bordered by Phetchaburi to the north, Chumphon to the south, and Myanmar to the west across the Tenasserim Hills. The provincial capital, Prachuap Khiri Khan town, is a charming fishing community set in a perfectly semicircular bay overlooked by Khao Chong Krajok hill, where macaque monkeys inhabit a hilltop temple with sweeping sea views. Sam Roi Yot National Park in the north protects freshwater marsh, coastal caves with dramatic stalactites, and globally significant migratory bird habitat. The province has a population of around 552,000 and sustains a lively fishing and agricultural economy producing pineapples, coconuts, and prawns. Hua Hin, although already extensively documented, remains the province's best-known international destination.
