Samut Prakan Province

The province had a population of approximately 1,380,826 in 2024 and hosts Suvarnabhumi Airport, Thailand's principal international airport, which handled over 63 million passengers in 2018. The western bank of the Chao Phraya here features rice paddies, shrimp farms, and mangrove forests, while the eastern bank is heavily industrialised and urbanised. A 47-kilometre coastline on the Gulf of Thailand includes the closest sandy beach to Bangkok, located in Phra Samut Chedi District. The province is historically significant as the site of the 1893 Paknam Incident, a naval confrontation between France and Siam. The iconic Wat Phra Samut Chedi, perched on a small island at the river mouth, is the province's most revered temple.
