Si Racha
Si Racha is a coastal industrial city in Chon Buri province, situated on the eastern shore of the Gulf of Thailand approximately 120 km south-east of Bangkok. The city is internationally recognised as the birthplace of Sriracha hot sauce and is a key hub within Thailand's Eastern Seaboard industrial zone.
Si Racha lies within the Pattaya–Chon Buri metropolitan conurbation, which has a combined population approaching one million. The city grew rapidly after Field Marshal Chaophraya Surasak Montri established commercial operations there in 1900, and the district was formally named Si Racha in 1917. Major industrial facilities including Map Ta Phut petrochemical complex and the deep-water port of Laem Chabang are in the broader Si Racha district, drawing a large Japanese and Korean expatriate community. The waterfront promenade features seafood restaurants built out over the water, and ferries to Ko Si Chang depart from the town pier. Si Racha balances its industrial identity with a relaxed seaside character distinct from the entertainment-oriented atmosphere of nearby Pattaya.
