Ko Kood
Ko Kood, also written Ko Kut, is the largest island in Trat province and the fourth-largest island in Thailand, situated in the Gulf of Thailand close to the Cambodian maritime border. The island is known for its pristine beaches, lush jungle waterfalls, and a conspicuous absence of mass tourism.
Ko Kood is administered as the Ko Kut district of Trat province, one of the least populated districts in all of Thailand with a recorded population of under 3,000. The island's economy centres on fishing, coconut and rubber cultivation, and small-scale eco-tourism. Khlong Chao Waterfall, set within dense tropical forest in the island's interior, is the most celebrated natural attraction, accessible by longtail boat along a jungle river. The lack of an airstrip and limited ferry connections have preserved Ko Kood's unhurried character; accommodation ranges from simple bungalows to a handful of high-end eco-resorts fronting secluded white-sand bays. Snorkelling and diving around the surrounding coral reefs remain among the best in the eastern Gulf of Thailand.
