Tak

Tak is a large, predominantly forested province in western Thailand, bordering Myanmar along the Dawna and Tenasserim mountain ranges. It is home to Thi Lo Su, considered the largest waterfall in Thailand, and the Bhumibol Dam on the Ping River.

Covering 16,407 square kilometres, Tak is the fourth-largest province in Thailand and the second-largest in the northern region. About 72 percent of its land is covered by dense forest, traversed by the Ping River which is impounded by the massive Bhumibol Dam (also known as Adulyadej Dam). The provincial capital, Tak city, sits on the Ping River approximately 426 kilometres north of Bangkok. Around a quarter of the population belongs to hill tribes including Karen, Hmong, Akha, Lahu, Lisu, and Yao. The border town of Mae Sot, connected to Myanmar via the Moei River, is a major trade and humanitarian hub in the region.
