Ko Lanta

Ko Lanta Yai's western shore is lined with nine beaches running the full length of the island, including the popular Klong Dao, Long Beach (Pra-Ae), and Klong Khong, while the interior remains forested hill country. The island forms the Ko Lanta District together with the smaller Ko Lanta Noi to the north, which is connected by a short bridge, and several other island groups. Ban Saladan at the northern tip serves as the main ferry port, receiving boats from Krabi town, Ko Phi Phi, and Ko Ngai. A small community of Urak Lawoi' sea-gypsy people, who are considered the island's earliest inhabitants, still maintains a village on the southern coast. Ko Lanta has developed as a lower-key alternative to Phuket and Ko Samui, attracting travellers who seek long beaches and a relaxed pace without the full commercialisation of larger resort destinations.
