Île
Ko Phayam
Ko Phayam is a small island in the Andaman Sea off the coast of Ranong Province, protected within Mu Ko Phayam National Park, which was established in 2003. The car-free island is known for its cashew and coconut plantations, sandy beaches, and relaxed atmosphere that contrasts sharply with more developed Thai resort islands.
Ko Phayam has a land area of approximately 2.23 square kilometres and a maximum length of about 8 kilometres, with forested hills rising through the interior. The island has no roads suitable for cars, making motorbikes and bicycles the primary modes of transport for both residents and visitors. Its beaches, including Aow Yai on the west coast and Aow Khao Kwai in the north, are fringed by coral reefs that support diverse marine life. The island's forests are habitat for hornbills, sea eagles, monkeys, and various other wildlife. Ko Phayam can be reached by ferry from Ranong town, approximately two hours by slow boat or 45 minutes by speedboat.
