Chai Nat
Chai Nat is a small central Thai province on the flat alluvial plains of the Chao Phraya River valley, about 188 kilometres north of Bangkok. Its name means 'place of victory,' recalling its role as a successful military bulwark during the Ayutthaya period against Burmese invasions.
Chai Nat covers 2,470 square kilometres and is bordered by Nakhon Sawan to the north, Sing Buri to the east, Suphan Buri to the south, and Uthai Thani to the west. The Chao Phraya, Suphan, and Noi Rivers flow through the province, and the Chai Nat Dam (Bhumibol Irrigation Project) on the Chao Phraya controls water distribution to the central plains. The province is predominantly agricultural, producing rice, sugar cane, and fruits in its low-lying irrigated fields. Chai Nat Bird Park, a large open-air aviary, is the most visited attraction in the province. With a registered population of around 316,000, Chai Nat is one of Thailand's least densely populated central provinces.
