Ang Thong
Ang Thong is a small central Thai province in the Chao Phraya River basin, its name meaning 'gold basin' after the basin-like geography and the golden colour of its ripening rice. It is home to Wat Muang, which contains the tallest Buddha statue in Thailand.
Ang Thong covers approximately 968 square kilometres, making it one of Thailand's smallest provinces, and is bordered by Sing Buri and Lopburi to the north, Ayutthaya to the east and south, and Suphan Buri to the west. The province lies entirely on flat alluvial land created by the Chao Phraya and Noi Rivers, with virtually no forest and no mountains. The Great Buddha of Thailand at Wat Muang in Ang Thong city stands 92 metres tall and 63 metres wide, making it the tallest and widest Buddha image in the country. Ang Thong's economy is based on rice farming, and the province is also noted for pottery, traditional Thai candy manufacturing, and fish paste production. The provincial capital is about 100 kilometres north of Bangkok.
