Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya Province
Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya province is a central Thai province covering 2,548 square kilometres in the flat Chao Phraya River valley, situated 76 kilometres north of Bangkok. Its ancient capital served as the seat of the Ayutthaya Kingdom for 417 years and is today a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
The province is traversed by the Lopburi and Pa Sak rivers, which historically made it one of Thailand's most productive rice-farming regions. Beyond the celebrated ruins of Ayutthaya city, the province is home to the Bang Pa-In Royal Palace, a popular royal retreat set on an island in the Chao Phraya River. With a population of approximately 822,720 residents (2024), it ranks 30th among Thai provinces by population. Manufacturing now dominates the economy, accounting for over 61 percent of gross provincial product, with major automobile factories operating in the province. The province is divided into sixteen districts and borders Ang Thong, Lopburi, Saraburi, Pathum Thani, Nonthaburi, Nakhon Pathom and Suphan Buri.
